Donna
Donna is a local from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, who is known for her vibrant personality despite living on the streets.
Donna approached me on Franklin Street one day with a Sharpie in hand and said,
“My friend Kenny is an alcoholic and isn’t doing too well. Could you please draw a mustache on my face so I can cheer him up?”
A week later, Donna recognized me when I gave her a meal. “It’s the Australian girl who drew a mustache on my face!”
I sat and talked with her for a little while, and she explained to me what she thinks the meaning of life is.
“If we aren’t put on this planet to give to others, then what the fuck are we here for?”
Donna pets her nameless dog who follows Donna wherever she goes without needing to be leashed.
“You see, dogs don’t care how much money you have. They love you regardless.”
Despite being homeless herself, Donna does everything she can to help the homeless community on Franklin Street by meeting with council members to provide resources for those in need.
